How Well Did Your Team Do in 2010?April 27th, 2010 By DraftNasty Staff Reports
With the draft being over and mini-camps kicking off this week, see how DraftNasty graded your team's performance in this year's draft. Arizona Overall Grade: A- Picks:
Comments: Our scouts were really impressed with the way Arizona conducted their draft this season, they stayed patient and only moved when they felt they needed to. Landing Dan Williams at 26 was a good pick for a guy who some had projected as a top 15-20 player. Daryl Washington in Round 2 was another high value pick and a guy who was overshadowed some by Jerry Hughes at TCU. He should be able to come in and quickly make an impact for them. Andre Roberts is a quick young WR who should help with the transition from Kurt Warner to Matt Leinart. Lastly, one of our favorite picks for the Cards was Jarrick Calvin out of Troy, although Calvin was unable to play this past season due to academic issues, our scouts agreed that he was a real sleeper. Calvin shows good ball skills and body control and, had he played, could have easily been in the top half of the cornerback ratings.
Atlanta Overall Grade: B- Picks:
Comments: We all really like the Sean Weatherspoon pick. We think he gives them great value along with filling a need at 19. He is a very good coverage LB who we would like to see stay around his current weight, we feel as though he carries it well and it helps his play. We are concerned about the Corey Peters pick early in the 3rd Round, we see this as a pick very similar to the Peria Jerry pick of last season and if he’s not healthy, it’s definitely a need for them. Peters struggled at times against mediocre SEC offensive lines, so there is a question if they may have reached here. We really like the Mike Johnson pick for Atlanta and think he could be a key piece to their offensive line for years to come. Johnson has very good technique and they got good value for him at 98. We were not as high on Dominique Franks as some other people are, we see him as a solid zone coverage corner but not much more than that. He has some ball skills and is a good return guy, but we had him about 50 slots lower on our Big Board. Joe Hawley may or may not be their answer at center, but at the very least they are going to give him a shot. The surprise was them taking Hawley over Boston College center Tennant, who played with Matt Ryan while in school.
Baltimore: Overall Grade: B+ Picks:
Comments: Ozzie Newsome has done it again and has shown why he is one of the best GM’s in the game today. It was no big secret that if Dez Bryant was on the board at pick 25, the Ravens may have taken him. So when Dallas swooped up and took him at 24, what did Newsome do? He didn’t panic, he simply traded down with the Broncos for a king’s ransom and two of the best value guys in Round 2. He was able to add Mount Cody and Sergio Kindle to an already scary defense. Now there are concerns about Cody’s weight, and Kindle’s knee, but to get these guys at 57 and 43, respectively, is ridiculous. Adding Arthur Jones to the mix with Cody and Ngata and you have a defensive line that pushes the scales at over half a ton. Try moving them out of the way. We thought Ed Dickson and Dennis Pitta were great additions, and we were really impressed with Dickson’s ability to consistently gain separation from defensive players and Pitta has outstanding ball skills. He catches everything thrown his way and provides Baltimore with two huge new weapons to go with Joe Flacco. Ramon Harewood is a developmental tackle who under the right coaching could turn into something special in a couple of years. He has good size and athleticism. Buffalo: Overall Grade: A- Picks:
Comments: The Bills came into this draft under a new regime and they were out to prove that this time they were going to be different. They certainly did that by grabbing CJ Spiller in the 1st Round, thus destroying the Jags entire first round hopes and dreams. In Round 2, they reached a little for Torrell Troup but got the NT they badly need to make the 3-4 transition. In Rounds 3 and 4, they grabbed two great talents in DE Alex Carrington and WR Marcus Easley. Carrington should be the top reserve end this season, while Easley has the door wide open to be a starter opposite Evans if he is ready to take the reins. Buffalo added small schoolers Arthur Moats and Danny Batten to help strengthen the LB corps, along with Kyle Calloway for OL depth. He is versatile and can play the right tackle position. Ed Wang is a good athlete who will have to improve his overall play strength. Carolina Overall Grade: B Picks:
Comments: Landing Clausen at 48 was a very good pick for Carolina. He went right where our Big Board projected he should go. This pick was a solid one given Matt Moore is currently the starter there. However, we were then confused by them taking two more QB’s in Armanti Edwards and Tony Pike later in the draft. We expect them to probably move Edwards to WR, though we do think he is an NFL caliber QB, and leave Pike to compete with Clausen and Moore. We thought Carolina’s middle of the draft was great, landing Norwood, Hardy, Gettis, and LaFell will all provide badly needed depth and were of great value when compared to our big board. The end of their draft was so-so. Chicago Overall Grade: C- Picks:
Comments: Chicago didn’t have many picks to work with, so their grade was already hurt some because of that. We thought Major Wright in the third round was a reach, nobody thought he would be able to come in and really help the team this year solidify its safety spot. We had him listed as #216 on our Big Board. We thought the additions of Corey Wootton and Dan LeFevour were good if both players can develop. Wootton must return to his 2008 form before his knee injury, while LeFevour just needs to continue to build on his strong college resume'. If both players develop, they could really turn this class into a good one for Chicago, despite not having many picks to work with. Cincinnati Overall Grade: B Comments:
Jermaine Gresham in the 1st was a no brainer for the Bengals, they need a TE and Gresham was the best one in this class. Although there was some concern amongst our scouts about his injury, most agreed he is on track to get back to full strength. Carlos Dunlap in Round 2 can provide them with some serious pass rush help if he can keep his head on straight, he’s similar in that regard to last year’s pick of Michael Johnson. Jordan Shipley should become a reliable slot option for them over time, and Brandon Ghee was a little bit of an underrated corner who is similar in coverage to Alphonso Smith and should be able to be successful in the Bengals defensive scheme. Geno Atkins had very good value in Round 4, as he had a very strong offseason, and we expected him to possibly have gone a little higher. We felt Briscoe was a steal in the sixth round, but fell due to character concerns. Cleveland Overall Grade: C+ Picks:
Comments: Montario Hardesty was a very good pick for them and he will contrast Jerome Harrison’s big play ability well, as long as he can stay healthy. Colt McCoy was a great value pick in Round 3 and should be able to learn a lot behind Jake Delhomme and Seneca Wallace this season. All of our scouts agreed that Clifton Geathers could develop into a solid 3-4 DE with some time and coaching and that he was a good pick in the 6th Round. Carlton Mitchell could be a huge pickup if he can concentrate on just catching the football and not worry about talking so much. He has great size and speed, and just needs to do his job more consistently. He has a great opportunity in Cleveland and will join an exciting group of young receivers, currently led by Mohammed Massaquoi. Dallas Overall Grade: C- Picks:
Comments: The Boys traded up to get Dez Bryant, who may be the most NFL ready WR to come out since Calvin Johnson and should really help to compliment Miles Austin. We didn’t quite understand the Sean Lee pick in Round 2, we felt as though he could have been gotten later in the draft and that there was plenty of other ILB options that were more athletic and had a cleaner bill of health. Akwasi Owusu-Ansah is a name Cowboys fans are going to have to learn to say because he is going to be a good one. He has good size and speed and should be able to really help out Dallas in a year or two after adjusting to the NFL game after coming from the DII level. We see Sean Lissemore as a small school developmental type prospect who has the ability to become a rotational defensive linemen for them. Denver Overall Grade: C+ Picks:
Comments: Denver’s draft was inconsistent, they traded down to get more picks, then splurged and traded most of them away to move back up. If you’re going to preach about character and morals as your reason for passing on Dez Bryant and taking Tim Tebow, then you don’t turn around in the 5th Round and take CB Perrish Cox, whose own school banned him from their Pro Day. Demayrius Thomas has good size, speed and hands but he has little experience running the route tree and must show improvement in those areas before he begins to make an NFL impact. We did think that JD Walton and Eric Decker were outstanding picks for Denver, as they provide them with guys who started for years in college and were successful. We felt that getting Kirlew and Thompson were good value picks late, both players fell due to questions around speed, not production. Detroit: Overall Grade: B Picks:
Comments: They landed Suh,who was arguably the top talent in this class and should team with FA signee Kyle Vanden Bosch to immediately upgrade the Lions DL. They then traded back into Round 1 to take Jahvid Best, another good value pick with injury question marks. They had to find a RB with Kevin Smith’s status still unknown for the season and Best is a heck of an alternative for them. In Round 3, they landed former Iowa CB Amari Speivey, who we all agreed brings a physical style of play. We weren’t big fans of Willie Young in Round 7, yes it’s Round 7 and here is where you take guys that have high potential, but Young is just so inconsistent, it’s hard to imagine why he was selected over a player like Brandon Lang. Mr. Irrelevant Tim Toone has the chance to make Detroit roster as at least a return specialist, but has some upside as a wideout. Green Bay Overall Grade: B Picks:
Comments: The Packers grabbed Bulaga at pick 23 and we felt he was a good fit for the organization. We feel like he could definitely be a NFL LT and at the very least become an immediate starting guard for the Packers. Mike Neal in Round 2 is more of a question mark and we agreed that he probably needed to stay in a 4-3 system, but has enough athleticism to play the five technique position. Morgan Burnett in Round 3 is a guy we all like a lot and he could become a very solid starter for the Packers if he continues to develop. Under defensive coordinator Dom Capers, we think Burnett could flourish. Andrew Quarless is a good pass catching option for Rodgers to go to outside of Jermichael Finley. James Starks, if he returns to his 2008 form, could be a steal in Round 6. However, the one pick are scouts eagerly agreed upon was the CJ Wilson pick in Round 7. His skill set may be a better fit for the Packers defense than Mike Neal in Round 2. Houston Overall Grade: B Picks:
Comments: We didn’t quite understand the pick of Kareem Jackson, when guys like Kyle Wilson and Patrick Robinson were still available. We thought that even though Jackson may be a good zone cover corner, Wilson and Robinson were just as good a fit for their system and provided unique versatility in their man coverage skills. Ben Tate was a very underrated SEC RB who provides good depth behind Slaton and a little bit of punch to Slaton’s elusive running style. Earl Mitchell is a lightning fast DT who could really help to revive Amobi Okoye’s career as the two together could really help make an elite DL when combined with Mario Williams. Garrett Graham is a very good pass catching option for Schaub and may one day replace Owen Daniels if Houston cannot sign him long term. Shelley Smith and Sherrick McManis were both extremely good depth picks who could become top reserves in the Texans' system. Trindon Holliday is an electric return guy who provides value as a decoy on the offense. Dorin Dickerson is a blazing H-back that will provide mismatches when safeties and linebackers try and cover him one on one. Indianapolis Overall Grade: C- Picks:
Comments: We loved the Jerry Hughes pick; we thought it was quite possibly the best pick of the 1st Round. Under Dwight Freeney we think Hughes could flourish and go from an already very good DE to a completely dominant DE at the pro level. We weren’t so sure about the rest of their picks however, and felt like they reached on Angerer, Thomas, and McClendon. We also wondered what the need was for taking the rest of the guys who we felt could have been picked up as UDFA’s and were not even on our draft radars for the most part. It’s hard to question a man like Bill Polian, but this draft leaves a lot to wonder about. Jacksonville Overall Grade: C+ Picks:
Comments: If you watched the NFL Network's coverage of the Jacksonville War Room see the CJ Spiller pick announced to Buffalo, you will see 3-4 heads literally hit the table. They had no backup plan, no trade in place to move down in case their guy was gone. They had the CJ Spiller card signed, sealed and ready to be delivered when Buffalo crashed their party. So what did they do? They panicked and took Tyson Alualu, who they probably had rated as at least a Top 50 player, but quite possibly their top rated defensive tackle prospect. He is a good football player, but we had him rated as a late second round type. The rest of their draft was very good in the minds of our scouts. Every pick after the Alualu disaster got rave reviews from our scouts; one scout thought that D’Anthony Smith was a perfect pick to replace John Henderson, while all our scouts raved about Larry Hart’s ability to get after the QB. We saw Austen Lane as a great value pick in Round 5 as a defensive end and Deji Karim is a little speedster who had fine postseason workouts after an excellent career. Their keen eye for small school talent really saved their draft and we think Larry Hart is the sleeper of the entire draft. Kansas City Overall Grade: B Picks:
Comments: Eric Berry is a legitimate top 5 talent and many felt that because he was a safety, GM Scott Pioli would pass, Safeties don’t usually go that high, but he has enough talent to make the transition to the cornerback spot if needed. We really liked what Jon Asamoah brings in terms of a nastiness, demeanor and athleticism to the offensive line, and Tony Moeaki is a guy who is a bit of a throwback in that he is both an accomplished pass catcher but also a very good blocker as a TE. McCluster, Arenas and Sheffield all fill needs and special teams potential to the organization. Miami Overall Grade: C Picks:
Comments: We were not a fan of Jared Odrick in Round 1, we saw him a mid 2nd Round guy, and potentially as late as Round 3. We do think he fell into the right system as a 3-4 DE, but we don’t see anything in his game that he does exceptionally well, which was a big issue in the eyes of our scouts. In the 2nd Round, we felt like the decision to reach for Koa Misi was a poor one and while he has value as a 3-4 OLB, there were better options available on the board at the time who could have been of more immediate help to the Dolphins. We did like the John Jerry pick in the 3rd, as we expect him to slip back inside to guard where he looks more natural and comfortable. AJ Edds and Nolan Carroll were again two picks we felt like they reached on which seemed to be a theme for the Phins. We did like both Reshad Jones and Chris McCoy though, we thought that Jones was a great value pick in Round 5 and could one day develop into a starting S for Miami. McCoy has a lot of talent as a underrated outside rush LB prospect. Minnesota Overall Grade: B- Picks:
Comments: We thought Chris Cook was a decent pick for Minnesota because he provides good size and speed for them at the CB position. While not all our scouts were completely sold on him, we agreed that he had the potential to become a decent corner one day with good ball skills. We thought Toby Gerhart was a great pick for the Vikes, as he is the perfect complement to AD and can really work to wear down opposing defenses. Everson Griffen has some maturity issues that he mentioned in his interview with us that still need to be ironed out, but if he can fix those and really continue to develop his all around game, he could be a starting DE one day. Chris DeGeare was a pick we had issues with as one of our scouts specifically mentioned his play in the Navy game, where he really struggled to stop a very undersized Navy DL from penetrating. Joe Webb was an excellent developmental option as he moves from QB to WR. In 2007, he was a very productive wideout while in college. New England Overall Grade: B Picks:
Comments: McCourty has the ability to develop one day into a starting caliber CB. The Patriots then went on to take two TE’s in Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez, which makes for a huge surplus at the TE position for the Patriots. While they both provide versatility and great pass catching options, we didn’t understand the need for both players, unless they are concerned about Gronkowski’s back. The Patriots also ended up taking a number of other Florida Gators in Brandon Spikes and Jermaine Cunningham. We felt as though Spikes is a great fit next to Jerrod Mayo in their 3-4 scheme. Their best pick was potentially Taylor Price, who gives them great WR depth, regardless of the return of Wes Welker, and has a chance to learn under the great Torry Holt in New England. We do wish New England would have been able to do more to address their pass rush issues but they had possibly the best 7th Round of all teams were they took four players (Welch, Deadrick, Weston, and Robinson). They could all one day become contributors for them, which is value you don’t often see that late in the draft. New Orleans Overall Grade: B+ Picks:
Comments: Patrick Robinson has the potential to become the best CB in this year's draft class. In Round 2, we really liked the Charles Brown pick, who fell due to some injury concerns that we were not able to verify as legitimate. Brown is potentially a steal at 64. Jimmy Graham and Al Woods are two very intriguing prospects for the Saints. They are both seen as future developmental guys and both have big time potential. Graham is an athletic TE option who moved over from playing basketball at Miami to become an NFL TE. We thought Matt Tennant was a very good late round addition, considering he was one of our top center prospects. New York Giants Overall Grade: C+ Picks:
Comments: We don’t quite understand the reason for passing on a player like Derrick Morgan to take Jason Pierre-Paul. Clearly he's a better athlete than Morgan, but is he a better football player? The Giants have a good coaching staff and will work long hours to get Pierre-Paul ready by Week One. In the 2nd Round, we felt they reached for Linval Joseph, who has been an underachiever up until this past season. We do like the Chad Jones pick in Round 3 and he has the potential to come in and develop into a starter if his love for the game can catch up to his talent. Adrian Tracy is an intriguing DE prospect who has some pass rush ability and could be a solid special teams contributor from Day One. New York Jets: Overall Grade: B+ Picks:
Comments: Only four picks for the Jets this yea, but they made the most of them, adding Kyle Wilson in Round 1. They arguably could have the most depth at the cornerback position in the entire NFL. Wilson will become the immediate nickel CB for them and provide a spark in the return game. Ducasse was the pick that allowed them to release Faneca, he is going to move inside to OG and could develop into a dominant player with some coaching on the finer points of his technique. Joe McKnight was a great pick in round 4 and his best football may still be ahead of him. Lastly, we all saw John Conner as an offensive Rex Ryan style of player because he just loves to hit people. Oakland: Overall Grade: B Picks:
Comments: The Raiders put together a very good class headlined by Rolando McClain, who is a leader and playmaker on the defensive side of the ball. He has a high football IQ and could fill the departure left by Kirk Morrison. Adding Lamarr Houston got mixed reactions from our scouts, because we aren’t sure how well he fits their multi-scheme defense. One thing he can do though is penetrate and when asked to do that, he can be very effective. Now it wouldn’t be a Raiders draft, if they didn’t grab a couple of workout guys and of course they did, but they got them at spots where their value is perfect. Bruce Campbell has off the charts athleticism and Jacoby Ford’s speed may make him the fastest WR in the NFL, especially if he carries his pads better at the next level. If either guy can hone their scary athleticism and become true positional players, the Raiders got steals at both spots. Finally, our scouts raved about the Walter McFadden pick. He is tougher than he appears at first glance. Look no further than his performance in the Outback Bowl versus Northwestern, where he played through injury in his final game as a Tiger, yet still recorded two interceptions, including a 100 yard interception return for a touchdown. Philadelphia: Overall Grade: A- Picks:
Comments: Just by sheer number of picks Philly gets a high grade. They were able to add incredible depth to their team through this draft and really took advantage of how deep this class was by grabbing 13 players. They really worked to improve their pass rush by selecting Graham, Te’o-Nesheim, and Sapp to go along with the additions of Daryl Tapp and Ernie Sims. Graham is a guy they can use as a stand up OLB or a hand on the ground DE who will provide good versatility for Sean McDermott’s defense. Adding Nate Allen in the 2nd will help out their pass secondary but maybe not as quickly as some would hope, which would explain the run on pass rushers this offseason for Philly. Philly also added some help to their offense in terms of Riley Cooper and Clay Harbor, who could give new QB Kevin Kolb some more additional weapons. Finally, the pick we were intrigued by was the Charles Scott pick, if he can return to his 2008 form. He will help Mike Bell complement current running back LeSean McCoy. Pittsburgh: Overall Grade: B+ Picks:
Comments: The Steelers were another team that stayed patient and eventually got their man in Pouncey. Pouncey should come in from Day 1 and find a spot on their line. The additions of Worlids and Gibson give them a seemingly never ending supply of outside pass rush options. Sanders only adds depth to a receiving corps that continues to get faster and younger. We thought the Jonathan Dwyer pick was an absolute steal in the 6th Round and he could be a great compliment to Rashad Mendenhall. Also in the 6th, they landed another good WR in Antonio Brown, who also provides outstanding special teams value. San Diego Overall Grade: B- Picks:
Comments: The trade up for Ryan Matthews may have been unnecessary to some, but not if the team had him rated higher o their board than others. Matthews was our top rated RB and has the potential to develop into an elite back. Some will question the decision to move up and grab him, but in our minds it was a very good trade for a very good player. Donald Butler in Round 3 was a very good value player who will add athleticism to their inside linebacker position and he could surprise with his blitzing ability early. He and Brandon Siler could become a very dynamic duo. Cam Thomas was a great value pick in Round 5, which is around where we had him pegged to go as we did not buy into the pre-draft hype. We saw Jonathan Crompton as an intriguing pick in Round 5. Could he be the next Charlie Whitehurst? San Francisco Overall Grade: B- Picks:
Comments: One of our scouts didn’t really understand the need to trade up to get Anthony Davis but we do love the direction they are heading with their power running game. Davis and Iupati should combine to create a dominant side of the line and take the pressure off of Alex Smith. The place where they got Taylor Mays is good value for the team and he could be a better pro than collegiate player. We didn’t quite understand the Navarro Bowman pick and we aren’t sure where he fits, but to play in their 3-4 he’s going to need to hit the gym. Anthony Dixon is a good pick for them and gives them three backs that can now wear a defense down (Coffee, Gore and Dixon). St. Louis Overall Grade: B- Picks:
Comments: They had to take Sam Bradford; they literally had no choice in the matter. You can’t justify spending 45-50 million on an unproven DT who can’t win you games. That being said Bradford has elite level accuracy on his passes and has shown he can throw the ball after his shoulder surgery. He will have to adjust quickly to playing behind a less than elite OL in the NFL, unlike the line he has at Oklahoma which was one of the most dominant lines to ever play college football. In the 2nd they took Saffold who failed to impress our scouts as he was never a dominant OT in the Big Ten, there is also a thought that he may simply move inside to OG. Jerome Murphy and Mardy Gilyard are great value additions to this Rams team at positions where they need plenty of help. Hall Davis to one of our scouts is a perfect Steve Spagunolo pick he is a guy he can play at DE, DT, or OLB and really move him around. We also liked the value that George Selvie brought in Round 7, two years ago he was a top 10 draft pick, and now in Round 7 he presents good value. If he can regain his form, he could be a huge steal. Seattle Overall Grade: A Picks
Comments: Our top graded draft goes to the Seahawks and new Head Coach Pete Carroll. If you look at their first three picks alone (Okung, Thomas, and Tate), this draft gets an A. Anytime you can fill your teams three biggest weaknesses with not only three good players, but three players that were of great value, that’s huge. It’s not like their draft got worse after that either, adding Walter Thurmond III to an inconsistent secondary helps them there and in the return game. EJ Wilson is an underrated end coming out of UNC. Carroll added two TE’s though that may really help define this class. First, he took his former TE at USC Anthony McCoy in Round 6, who is a pass catching option with decent athleticism and the body to develop into a good blocker. Then in the 7th , he took the overlooked TE Jameson Konz, who runs in the 4.4 range and reportedly has a 46” vertical leap, which is literally unheard of for anybody, let alone a TE. Konz may never be anything in the NFL, but the fact that Carroll drafted so well filling his other holes, he had the flexibility to take a shot at Konz in Round 7. That says all you need to know about this draft. Tampa Bay Overall Grade: B Picks
Comments: Tampa had the easiest pick in this draft, whichever DT fell to them they were going to take. They got the better pass rusher in Gerald McCoy, who is a more versatile DT and was the top player on our Big Board. McCoy gives them that Warren Sapp type player they have been missing for years. Next, they took their Booger McFarland in Brian Price. They combination of Price and McCoy in the middle for the next few years should give AFC South fans shivers. Then later in the 2nd round, they add the dynamic Arrelious Benn, who if not for inconsistent QB play, may have challenged Dez Bryant for the top WR spot on our boards. Following Benn was the very impressive Myron Lewis. who is a physical style CB who is not afraid to mix it up and get in right into the face of opposing WR’s. Round 4 brought about some controversy as Tampa took former Syracuse WR Mike Williams. Based solely on talent, Williams is an easy 2nd Round type pick, but that’s not all there is. He has academic issues, character issues, but worst of all he quit on his team in the middle of the year. To our scouts, that is inexcusable and he has a lot of work to do to win over not only Tampa fans, but also his veteran teammates. Tennessee Overall Grade: A Picks:
Comments: Getting Derrick Morgan in the 1st round was truly a gift from above. He displays very good pass rushing skills and is working toward improving his run defense. He should be an immediate starter for the Titans and provide them with good doses of energy. Damian Williams in the 3rd is a great pickup value wise, Tennessee badly needed some help at WR and Williams provides that. He went lower than many of us expected and there can be no happier man than Vince Young about that. Alterraun Verner was a very underrated CB coming out of UCLA and they followed that up with taking two safeties, Robert Johnson and Myron Rolle. Rolle is a smart SS who can play inside the box or out, but is at his best when left to roam the field. Johnson is a playmaker who recorded three interceptions versus Colorado State last season. Rusty Smith, called by legendary coach Howard Schnellenberger as the best QB he ever coached, may have been a real find in Round 6. Rennie Curran is one of the better linebackers in this year's draft and could be a Dexter Coakley type at the NFL level. Washington Overall Grade: B Picks:
Comments: In the first round, they got the most athletic OT in the draft and they need to keep Donovan McNabb upright. With Chris Samuels sticking around, Williams will have the ability to pick the brain of a perennial All-Pro and he should take full advantage of that every chance he gets. In Round 4, the Redskins landed Perry Riley, who we think can come in and really help the D with their 3-4 transition as an inside blitzer and sure tackler. In the 7th Round, we really like Selvish Capers and were surprised to see him fall so far, he was a multi-year starter at RT for West Virginia and is a good blocker. He led the way for both Steve Slaton and Noel Devine in his time at West Virginia while protecting Pat White’s blind side. We honestly think that Washington potentially got two bookend tackles in this draft, which is why it gets a B grade from us at DraftNasty. Got an item? Please send an email to [email protected]

Very good. Its about time that the teams were graded lower. I am sick and tired of most sites giving all As and Bs. As in a bell curve, the average grades should be a C, so you are still too high, but better.

I'm clearly biased, and I think there are a lot of ways you could argue that Jacksonville made the wrong pick, but "panicking" is not one of them. It's a room full of professional scouts who spend all year figuring out who they want. I'm willing to go out on a limb and guess that they were prepared for the chance that one player would be gone, and had a reasonable back-up plan. Furthermore, given 10 minutes to pick, I'm willing to guess that someone in the room would have stopped GM Gene Smith halfway between pulling out all his hair, having a heart attack, and running up to his value board and errantly writing a name on a card. These are professionals; they wouldn't freak out and pick someone worth only what they considered a 2nd round pick because they "panicked." Leave a Reply |
