Beuerlein was a four-year starter while at Notre Dame, ending his career as the school's all-time leader in passing yards, completions and attempts.  He was selected for the annual Blue-Gray All Star game at the conclusion of his tenure and completed 12 of 15 passes in the contest.  He also connected on two touchdown passes to Michigan State wide receiver Mark Ingram, who is the father of 2009 Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram, Jr.   

Just as in college, Beuerlein's NFL career got off to an early start in terms of playing time.  In fact, he is the last productive starter from Notre Dame at the position in the NFL.  During his fourteen-year career, he passed for 24,046 yards in 102 career starts.  He went over the 3,000 yard mark three times and passed for a league best 4,436 yards during the 1999 season while with the Carolina Panthers.  He threw for a league high 36 touchdown passes versus only 15 interceptions.  He nearly had three 1,000 yard receivers on the team, with only former Pro Bowl TE Wesley Walls coming up short with 822 yards and 12 TD receptions.  Both of his starting wide receivers (Patrick Jeffers and Muhsin Muhammed) went over the 1,000 yard mark. 

At the age of 34 years old, the veteran QB had the distinction of becoming the oldest player ever selected to his first Pro Bowl.     

Beuerlein also won a Super Bowl in 1992 as a backup quarterback to Troy Aikman while in Dallas.  During the 1991 season, he went 4-0 as a starter for the Cowboys and passed for five touchdowns to only two interceptions.
