Bryant’s Beehive: FCS Senior Scout Bowl Player FeatureDecember 9th, 2010 By De'Angelo BryantQB Zach MacDowell (#10 pictured) of Coastal Carolina will be one of many FCS prospects looking to shine in this weekends FCS Senior Scout Bowl. Saturday will be the first annual game for FCS Senior Scout Bowl and the last time the participants will put on a uniform before their respected pro day workouts. I had a chance to catch up with MacDowell to discuss the importance of this game and what he hopes to accomplish while in New York this week. Q: How important is this week at the FCS game to you? Zach: When I found out I was the only quarterback for the South team, I thought this was a great opportunity to showcase my ability. It worked out where I was able to come up here and I want to show I can take my game to the next level. Q: What do you hope to accomplish during this week? Zach: I want to show I am capable of taking control of the offense. I want to showcase my ability and let people know how smart I am on the field. Q: Just to mention a few guys that you are playing with in WR’s Gerald Stevenson of Charleston Southern and Sean Jeffcoat of Elon. Did that excite you to know you will be playing with some highly valued players in their conferences? Zach: I actually did some research on them before I came to New York. All of the guys here are playmakers in their own way. Now, I just can’t wait to see what their hands and route running is like. Q: What are hoping to gain this week from being in New York? Zach: I’m hoping to gain knowledge from the coaches that I will be around. I want to understand the process of what I am about to go through, as well as what it takes to be a QB at the next level. Q: What would you like to showcase most that scouts would underrate about you? Zach: My decision making ability and not being able to force the ball. I just want to get the ball into the playmakers hands. Q: You led Coastal Carolina to its first playoff appearance in school history, what did that mean to you and the program? Zach: I think it was a big accomplishment winning the Big South and finishing 6-5. It’s the first time the school has done this, so it’s a big deal. I was just proud to be apart of something like that. We also hosted the first round of the playoff, but would have liked to have won that game.
Zach: We lost some pretty good wide outs and five offensive linemen after 2008. So I would say we have been in some what of a rebuilding stage. Obviously, I had to injuries here and there which is never a good thing. But I have had a few good games along the way. Q: With Wake Forest having a down season after the departure of QB Riley Skinner. Do you feel their season could have been different if you would have remained there as the quarterback? Zach: You know I really can’t say. I had a great 3 years at Coastal Carolina. As a matter of fact, I believe they’ve change there offense each year. So it’s just hard for me to say. Q: What’s next for Zach MacDowell? Zach: I am going to see how this weekend goes. Then after the new years I will be training in Boca Raton, Florida. The trainer and facility I will be working out at usually brings in about 20 people to workout for the combine and pro days. I will be looking forward to getting around some other good athletes so we can push each other.
