DraftNasty.com takes a look inside the game of Jackson State senior OLB Donovan Robinson (#54 pictured). Robinson finished his splendid career for the Tigers with 30 QB sacks and nearly 60 tackles for losses.
The 6-foot-3 1/2, 267-pound Johnson, pictured right, turned heads at the 2011 HBCU All-Star week weigh-ins with his 34" arms and impressive overall frame. His biggest asset may be his size, but his special teams prowess during the course of his career certainly doesn't hurt his cause. DraftNasty.com goes one-on-one with the Bowie State outside linebacker.
Evans, pictured, has taken his game to new heights in 2011. DraftNasty.com had a chance to catch up with the speedy senior during the 2011 HBCU Bowl week of practices. He believes his best football is yet to come.
DraftNasty.com recently sat down with Fort Valley State star wide receiver Ricardo Lockette during the 2011 NFLPA Texas vs The Nation week to discuss his NFL future. His unofficial 4.35 time earlier today at the 2011 NFL Combine matched the same time he recorded last December at the 2010 HBCU Bowl Combine.
The HBCU Bowl, one of the nation's premiere senior all-star games, selects the top 100 draft-eligible seniors (including 10 alternate players) from all HBCU conferences: MEAC, SWAC, SIAC, and CIAA to participate in the week of activities. Once that list is set, scouts from the NFL, CFL, UFL, and Arena football leagues evaluate the quality of players available during a one day official Combine administered by National Football Scouting of Indianapolis, Indiana. Last year, thirty-two (32) teams attended the week's practices and Saturday's game. Benedict DB Marquez Gibson (pictured above) was just one of many defenders looking to make an impression during the week.
Whitehead, one of the top athletes at the FCS level, has been a headline performer for four years in MEAC play. Blessed with the size and range of many of the pros he looks up to, Terrell understands what he needs to do to improve his game. DraftNasty.com's Corey Chavous found the talented senior wants to display the range from the free safety position that allowed him to garner 18 interceptions in his career.
The Panthers got a lot of good play from a number of players in winning the SWAC conference crown in 2009 and they were led by the talented Beck. Blessed with the skills to play either corner or safety, I learned that the 2-time All-SWAC first team standout credits football IQ for his consistent productivity.
Thomas Harris has done his best to get noticed by NFL scouts during his outstanding career for the Alabama A&M Bulldogs. Along with notching over 200 career receptions, the senior wideout also averaged 27.1 yds/KR in 2008. At 6'0" 185 lbs., Harris meets the size criteria for the position. He has been on the radar for NFL scouts as perhaps the premier senior pro prospect at the receiver position in the SWAC.
As a return man, everytime you get the ball you feel like you're going to score. Or at least that's your first thought. For Florida A&M return man LeRoy Vann, that thought is put into actualization more often than not. Over the course of the last two college football seasons, Vann has taken an amazing 11 kickoffs or punts back for scores. With twinkle toes for feet, and an impressive second level gear, Vann has made the most of his time as a Rattler. I got a chance to catch up with the return extraordinaire at last weekend's inaugural HBCU Bowl, where he wrapped up his career with MVP honors.
