Western Michigan became bowl eligible last Wednesday night by beating Miami,(OH) 24-21 at Yager Stadium. Offensively the Broncos rolled up 471 total yards, with 429 of those coming on the arm of Alex Carder, who had his third-straight 400-yard game and fourth of the season. He threw three TDs in a game for the fifth time in 2011. Miami's junior quarterback Zac Dysert also broke school-record book totals by completing 42 passes to eclipse Ben Roethlisberger's previous record of 40 against Hawai'i in 2001. Sophomore Redhawks' WR Nick Harwell( #8 in picture above) notched his eighth 100-yard receiving game, breaking Martin Nance's record for most 100-yard receiving games in a single season. Harwell ended the night with 14 catches for 138 yards and all three Miami touchdowns.
Temple almost broke Penn State's 29-game winning streak against the Owls in front of 57,323 fans, the third-largest crowd in team history. The Owls led the game until Penn State's Michael Zordich scored on a one-yard run with 2:42 remaining. Both teams now stand 2-1 after the Nittany Lions escaped with a hard-fought 14-10 victory.
Western Michigan leapt up to the challenge of staying in bowl contention, led by playmaking freshman cornerback Lewis Toler (pictured breaking up pass). Toler was part of a defensive effort that prevented the Golden Flashes from scoring a touchdown and his interception in the end zone highlighted a dominating performance.
Sophomore wide receiver Perez Ashford (#7 pictured) was just one of the many Northern Illinois Huskies who stood tall as the team recorded its seventh win in a row with a 65-30 thrashing of the Toledo Rockets Tuesday night.
DraftNasty.com traveled to Columbus, OH this past weekend to see if the nation's ninth ranked defense could slow down Terrelle Pryor and the Buckeyes. The Bobcats, Little Caesar Pizza Bowl participants a season ago, were just too overmatched early in the game and didn't settle down untll the third quarter. In the process, the Buckeye defense forced multiple turnovers and put the offense in favorable position most of the first half. The team cruised to a 43-7 victory and moved to 3-0 for the season.
DraftNasty.com stopped in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan this weekend to take a look at the Akron/Central Michigan matchup. The Zips were met with rainy, blissful conditions. We took a little time to put together a photo collage of the MAC battle.
