North Carolina broke their two-year bowl losing streak with a down to the wire, double overtime 30-27 win over Tennessee in the Music City Bowl in front of a largely partisan Vols sold out crowd (69,143). T.J. Yates spiked the ball with :01 left which allowed Barth to run out and kick the field goal to tie the game at 20. Tennessee freshman QB Tyler Bray threw a 25-yard TD in the first overtime, but Quan Sturdivant picked him off to end the Vols' last chance in the second OT. Casey Barth kicked a 23-yard field goal in the second overtime to seal the game. Barth has made a school-record 71 consecutive extra points and is the ACC active leader in field goals made with 50. The MVP of the game, senior tailback Shaun Draughn, rushed for 160 yards on 23 carries and one touchdown.
Virginia Tech captures its third ACC title in four years, after defeating the Florida State Seminoles 44-33 in Saturday’s ACC Championship game. The win was the 11th straight victory for the Hokies; earning them a trip to the Discover Orange Bowl on January 3rd.
