DraftNasty's Mock Draft II (First Round)-'Who Didn't Make the cut?'April 6th, 2010 By DraftNasty Staff Reports
In our first Mock Draft two months ago, we gave you an idea of what we would do at the time. In our latest Mock Draft, we begin to predict what we feel the teams may do and there are plenty more surprises. With Washington no longer in the running for a QB in the Top 10, the ninth pick owned by the Buffalo Bills serves as a major alarm for the Jimmy Clausen (pictured above) contingent. If he gets by the Bills, he may experience a major slide come draft day. ![]() 1. St. Louis Rams Sam Bradford QB Oklahoma As of (4/7/10) rankings: DraftNasty Big Board-#34 overall After Bradford's stellar individual workout and the release of former Pro Bowl starter Marc Bulger, the Rams elect to go with their first quarterback in the first round since their 1964 selection of Bill Munson from Utah State. 2. Detroit Lions Ndamukong Suh DT Nebraska DraftNasty Big Board-#2 overall This will be the second consecutive year the Lions get a player in most teams' top five on their perspective boards. It would be tempting to go after the light footed LT Okung, but Suh will be an instant starter and help upgrade a unit that gave up nearly 4.4 yards a carry on the ground in 2009. ![]() 3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers Gerald McCoy DT Oklahoma DraftNasty Big Board-#1 overall The Buccaneers will be in search of an inside disruptive force to help stop the run. They ranked last in the NFL in that category a year ago and an inside presence like McCoy would be a perfect fit. ![]() 4. Washington Redskins Russell Okung OT Oklahoma State DraftNasty Big Board-#6 Overall Okung's athleticism and frame are similar to 2008 Broncos' first round pick Ryan Clady (Boise State), who was drafted by Shanahan during his tenure in Denver. Okung will be a perfect fit in Shanahan's offensive scheme, which requires its left tackle to be a superior athlete. The Redskins gave up forty six sacks a year ago and need to give new starting QB Donovan McNabb a chance to succeed. ![]() 5. Kansas City Chiefs Eric Berry CB/S Tennessee DraftNasty Big Board-#3 overall The Chiefs are in need of a playmaker on the defensive side of the ball and Berry would be a second generation version of another former Tennessee safety, Dale Carter. While not quite as gifted as Carter, Berry's versatility is reminiscent of the former Chiefs' Pro Bowl cornerback. ![]() 6. Seattle Seahawks Trent Williams OT Oklahoma DraftNasty Big Board-#7 overall The Seahawks remain poised to at least look at one of the many Top Ten type talents at the position. In terms of body structure and athleticism, Williams is most similar to perennial All-Pro Walter Jones, who has hinted at retiring. He has the tools to develop at the left tackle spot, after only spending his final year there while at Oklahoma. ![]() 7. Cleveland Browns Earl Thomas CB/S Texas DraftNasty Big Board-#39 overall Although the debate could begin here on whether Thomas is the pick, the Browns brass has to make a decision on whether to address their defensive backfield. Even though we gave Thomas a second round grade, his star has been shining as of late and his recent 4.35 in his individual workout only increased his stock. Most teams have Thomas rated as the draft's second best safety and many teams would consider giving Thomas a trial run at the cornerback position. ![]() 8. Oakland Raiders Anthony Davis OT Rutgers DraftNasty Big Board-#9 overall In our first Mock Draft, we had the Raiders selecting Oklahoma tackle Trent Williams. While we still feel that he would be the pick if available, we expect the Raiders to go after the talented Davis, who has the skill set to be a ten year starter on an offensive front on the left or right side. ![]() 9. Buffalo Bills Bryan Bulaga OT Iowa DraftNasty Big Board-#13 overall The early run on tackles ends in Buffalo as they select the 6'6" 312 pound Bulaga. Based on free agency, the team goes after a physical tackle (team currently has Nick Hennessey, Jamon Meredith and Demetrius Bell) and looks for a quarterback in the top of the second round to come in and compete with current backup QBs Brian Brohm and Ryan Fitzpatrick. ![]() 10. Jacksonville Jaguars CJ Spiller RB/Ret Clemson DraftNasty Big Board-#11 overall As the team continues to attempt to improve its overall team speed offensively, the versatile Floridian native would be an impact selection. Maurice Jones-Drew has scored 30 touchdowns the last two years and even caught 53 passes out of the backfield in 2009. After selecting bookends at the offensive tackle positions in last year's draft, this pick begins to take some pressure off of Jones-Drew, who tallied 312 carries this past season. Spiller will open up one on one opportunities for the rest of the team's young wideouts and surround QB David Garrard with another big play threat offensively. ![]() 11. Denver Broncos Jason Pierre-Paul DE/OLB South Florida DraftNasty Big Board-#46 overall While the team would benefit from a run stuffing presence along their front, they could pair the talented Pierre-Paul opposite Elvis Dumervil and dramatically change the scope of pressure they could put on the quarterback from the edge. In round two, the Broncos go after their highest rated defensive interior or exterior lineman capable of stuffing the run. ![]() 12. Miami Dolphins Dan Williams DT Tennessee DraftNasty Big Board-#59 overall The Dolphins elect to go with the most athletic 320 plus pound defensive tackle on the board and elect the former Volunteer defensive tackle. He has the lower body strength to man the zero technique nose tackle position in their 3-4 fronts. He also will be effective when the team uses multiple front packages on first and second down. ![]() 13. San Francisco 49ers Kyle Wilson CB Boise State DraftNasty Big Board-Tied #26 overall The 49ers elect to go with the player whose stock has been on the rise since the end of the season. Wilson had a stellar Senior Bowl week and put together an impressive individual workout for teams at his Pro Day last month. ![]() 14. Seattle Seahawks Derrick Morgan DE Georgia Tech DraftNasty Big Board-#8 Overall Although the team will take a long look at USC's Everson Griffen at this spot, they instead decide to go with the talented Morgan, who many consider the most natural pass rush artist available in the 2010 NFL Draft. ![]() 15. New York Giants Rolando McClain LB Alabama DraftNasty Big Board-#20 overall The Giants will be on the hunt for a linebacker capable of leading its defense from the inside out. McClain's star may have fallen some since the revelation of his bout with Crohn's disease, but he is still one of the most instinctive players available in the 2010 class at the linebacker position. ![]() 16. Tennessee Titans Everson Griffen DE USC DraftNasty Big Board-#31 Overall Griffen's star has been on the rise since the end of the season and he has been putting up phenomenal numbers in postseason workouts, even reportedly running in the high 4.4s/low 4.5s at USC's Pro Day on March 31st. While this may be a little high for the USC defensive end with his inconsistent production, one of the teams in the first round may find his upside difficult to pass on. ![]() 17. San Francisco 49ers Bruce Campbell OT Maryland DraftNasty Big Board-#52 overall The 49ers address their offensive line problems with the pick of the last consensus first round offensive tackle on their board. While they may consider Dez Bryant, the contract squabbles they had with Michael Crabtree a year ago push them in the direction of the former Terrapin. ![]() 18. Pittsburgh Steelers Mike Iupati OG Idaho DraftNasty Big Board-#18 overall The Steelers still haven't recovered from losing All-Pro offensive guard Alan Faneca to the New York Jets. They need to establish an inside running game again and the massive Iupati gives the team some options as a swing lineman. He would compete for a starting job at one of the inside offensive line positions from day one. The team also could consider the highest rated cornerback on the board, depending on who's still available. ![]() 19. Atlanta Falcons Brandon Graham DE/OLB Michigan DraftNasty Big Board-#14 overall After picking up CB Dunta Robinson in free agency, the Falcons shift their focus to potentially the best defensive player left on the board. Graham improves their team speed defensively and gives them another legitimate pass rush threat from the outside. ![]() 20. Houston Texans Devin McCourty CB/KR Rutgers DraftNasty Big Board-Tied #26 overall McCourty has looked the part this postseason and he is coming off a year in which many felt he was the best corner in the Big East conference. He will be an instant upgrade in the secondary after the loss of cornerback Dunta Robinson to the Atlanta Falcons. ![]() 21. Cincinnati Bengals Jermaine Gresham TE Oklahoma DraftNasty Big Board-#38 overall The Bengals have already begun to expand their passing game with the signing of Antonio Bryant this offseason. The addition of Gresham gives the offense its biggest jolt since the team had the three headed monster of the late Chris Henry, TJ Housmanzadah and Chad Johnson on the flanks. ![]() 22. New England Patriots Ryan Mathews RB Fresno State DraftNasty Big Board-Tied #4 overall The Patriots will look long and hard at an outside linebacker here, but with three second round picks, could look to pick up someone like Clemson's Patrick Sapp in Round Two. Mathews ensures the team will have healthy competition in the backfield early in the preseason. His combination of speed and balance will inject needed energy into the Patriots' attack. ![]() 23. Green Bay Packers Patrick Robinson CB Florida State DraftNasty Big Board-#10 overall The Packers are looking to add a young cornerback with the ability to press and run with receivers in man coverage. Robinson has the tools to develop into the best cover man in this year's cornerback class. ![]() 24. Philadelphia Eagles Carlos Dunlap DE Florida DraftNasty Big Board-#17 overall For the Eagles to take the next step, they need to acquire another defensive end who can handle the responsibilities of handling the power running schemes they face week to week in the NFC East. Dunlap's size gives him a chance to succeed as a left defensive end in the division. ![]() 25. Baltimore Ravens Brian Price DT UCLA DraftNasty Big Board-#16 overall The Ravens will be on the lookout for an interior defensive line presence to begin to take the pressure off of ten year stalwart Kelly Gregg. What better way to groom his replacement than with someone similar in stature, build and playing style. Price fits the bill. ![]() 26. Arizona Cardinals Jerry Hughes OLB/DE TCU DraftNasty Big Board-#12 overall The Cardinals are another team that has built its team well through the draft, with Rod Graves and Steve Keim being a good pair in the desert. Despite registering 43 sacks as a team, they could use a presence like Hughes, who may be the most natural pass rusher in this year's draft. ![]() 27. Dallas Cowboys Dez Bryant WR Oklahoma State DraftNasty Big Board-Tied #4 overall Bryant (pictured above at his Pro Day March 31st) may have to wait awhile on the draft's first day. Dallas once passed on Randy Moss at pick 8 in 1998, but this time pull the trigger on the Lufkin, TX native and potentially best player available left on their board. ![]() 28. San Diego Chargers Jahvid Best RB California DraftNasty Big Board-#30 overall The selection of Best ensures that the offense will still run through franchise quarterback Philip Rivers' hands. Best gives the team another explosive threat to team in the backfield with Darren Sproles and someone else to create matchup problems within their diverse offensive personnel. ![]() 29. New York Jets Sergio Kindle OLB/DE Texas DraftNasty Big Board-#28 overall Kindle (pictured above in last year's Red River Rivalry going after Oklahoma QB Landry Jones) gives the team what they're hoping for-an explosive pass rusher off the edge. After the acquisition of CB Antonio Cromartie this offseason, Kindle upgrades an already fast, young defense even more. ![]() 30. Minnesota Vikings Colt McCoy QB Texas DraftNasty Big Board-#22 overall The Vikings could go in another direction, including taking a cornerback if they aren't comfortable that Cedric Griffin will make a full recovery. With the uncertain future of current quarterback Brett Favre, the Vikings may look to take the most accurate quarterback in the 2010 NFL Draft class. ![]() 31. Indianapolis Colts Maurkice Pouncey C Florida DraftNasty Big Board-#35 overall The selection of Pouncey will give the team a player capable at starting at a number of interior line positions. His athleticism is intriguing and he could eventually be groomed to take over at the center position in the next couple of years. ![]() 32. New Orleans Saints Sean Weatherspoon LB Missouri DraftNasty Big Board-#23 overall Weatherspoon did all he could this postseason to endear himself to NFL teams. He ran well, showed explosiveness and has the versatility to match routes as a coverage linebacker. His style of play fits Gregg Williams' defensive scheme perfectly and he might get consideration in this spot. *Please check out our final Mock Draft (Version III) on April 20th. i think the pats go kidle he is a hybrid he can play 4-3 end or 3-4 linebacker with a great pass rush which will kill two birds with one stone cause it would also rush the qb which kind of saves the secondary

Well its Bradford for the Rams (Ok!).......Corey you were right earlier with your estimation of Bradford and his injury. Who else but the Rams would force themselves to draft a Quarterback who's coming off of a Grade 3 Shoulder Separation on his Throwing shoulder. An injury that causes the shoulder to degenerate and most likely will require more surgery in the future. Ok, they say Drew Brees had a similar yet more damaging injury, I guess if you're a Rams fan you hope Bradford's heart is as big as Brees's. I'm not real sure on that.............could be another Rams mistake.

Sorry Corey, but with the acquisition of Daryl Tapp I highly doubt the Eagles would select a player with an inconsistent motor. With Joe Haden still on the board, and the recent trade of Sheldon Brown, he would probably be the best player available.

Walter Jones recently retired? You might want to give Big Walt a call and let him know that! I'm sure he'll be interested in hearing that breaking news first hand.

Joe Haden has been a topic on this forum and in this mock draft since day one. Let's look at the genesis of Joe Haden in the world of Mock drafts outside of Draftnasty.com. Mel Kiper had Joe Haden in his top five for several weeks (where does he have him now ?), Mike Mayock was alot higher at one time than he is now. And has stated many times Corey Chavous told him before the combine. That Haden would run a slow forty time, nobody but Corey Chavous amongst the top Draft ranters dared knock Haden in anyway........Corey was right ! Haden has taken a hit just like Spikes and near every other Florida player. The latest is Pouncey who people are starting to put in the second round (saying he's overated). Hey ! This blog feels Haden isn't as good as everybody thinks. More power to him to think like an individual insted of being like the repetitive typical everyday average top 20 posters.

I'm sorry, Haden might not be top 5 talent but he is the best corner in the draft and if he falls to my pack at 23 there is no hesitation, goes down in team history as one of the good late first round steals like A-Rod, Matthews and Barnett. 25, 26, and 25 respectively.

Cochav you thanked 12th man for correcting Corey in what he tought was a mistake. If 12th man reads this article again he will see that it says Walter Jones has hinted at retiring. Which means the possibility is there. The only thing worst than trying to correct some 1 when you don't know what you are talking about, is to agree with that person.

You think Colt McCoy will be drafted in the 1st round and ahead of Jimmy Clausen? Both QBs are recovering from injuries. What makes McCoy are better prospect than Clausen?

I doubt Joe Hadan makes it past the Eagles. He may not be as good as advertised, but someone will take a shot at him. I could see Clausen sliding (like Aaron Rogers) but I doubt the Vikings would select McCoy over him if he did fall that far. I think Clausen won't make it past the Niners though. I don't think Brad Childress is done with T. Jackson yet so I don't know if a QB will be the choice for the Vikings. We'll see. I foresee Dez Bryant and Rolando McClain going earlier than shown here as well. Not a bad mock.

Dan Williams is a one year wonder...prior to 2009 his college coach rated him as a free agent in the draft. He barely has two seasons under his belt and he has had weight problems...I do have to laugh how so many so called experts fall in love with these type of players. I wouldn't touch him in the first round.

Corey - The Vikes won't take a QB in this draft. If Pouncey is there, they'll take him or Iupati if he drops.

It seems that agents and NFL teams pay off certain draft sites. Or you guys simply try to be different and provoke more traffic and conversation... Because if you watch the tape it proves that it is not possible for Clausen to fall passed Buffalo. If you truly think that is possible then I recommend never watching tape again. Just go ahead copy everybody everybody else's mock and make it lure tards like me to omment on your stupid draft because you throw in such bone-headed picks.

@ wellWellPlayboy haven't you been told to not Drink and Post? How can you be so certain on something that hasn't happened yet? You're one of those dumb asses who swore there was no way Reggie Bush wouldn't go to the Texans. No wait you're the Wanksta who thought there was no way Matt Leinart would get past Norm Chow and the Titans?? Matt Ryan to the Dolphins huh? What about Adrian Peterson getting past the Cards and the Lions? Bottom Line is that this is not an exact science. Suppose Buffalo trades down b/c they are cool with what they got or they are targeting a veteran (Tyler Thigpen) Then what? This is the most original site on the internet. Everything is organic with Independent Thought. Most of those other sites/Analysts base their opinions off each other. Ever wonder why Espn/NFLN never are in agreement on the top prospects? They are basing their opinions on ratings. This site is basing their opinions on film and a Broad Overview. It's cats like you that believe everything you read/hear, just b/c a big network says it. Are u that gullible? Since u are, I have relatives in Nigeria that left me some money. Please send me a blank check and I will send u back alot of $$$..haha Dumb Ass!! WellWell?!? How bout you WellWell yo ass up outta here!! I told people last Mock Draft to not come in here sippin' that Haterade. Make your own Mock and compare..The Murf is back!!!
