DraftNasty's 2010 NFL Mock Draft-1st Round (Version 1)

February 10th, 2010 By DraftNasty Staff Reports

Gerald McCoy (pictured above) is DraftNasty.com's choice as the first overall pick in our first Mock Draft of the spring.

2010 NFL Mock Draft

Round One

1. St. Louis Rams

Gerald McCoy        DT           Oklahoma

The Rams can increase their team speed with the selection of McCoy, who may be even faster than the more disruptive Suh from Nebraska.  McCoy has linebacker type athleticism and he will be an impact player from Day One.

2.Detroit Lions

Ndamukong Suh    DT           Nebraska

This will be the second consecutive year the Lions get a player in most teams' top five on their perspective boards.  It would be tempting to go after the light footed LT Okung, but Suh will be an instant starter and help upgrade a unit that gave up nearly 4.4 yards a carry on the ground in 2009.

3.Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Eric Berry             S              Tennessee

The Buccaneers will be in search of an inside disruptive force to help stop the run.  They ranked last in the NFL in that category a year ago and an inside presence like Suh would be a perfect fit.  However, with Suh off the board, Berry will bring them an athletic playmaker who will be used as he was in 2009 under former Buccaneers defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin while at Tennessee.

4.  Washington Redskins

Russell Okung      OT          Oklahoma State

Although Davis is our top rated tackle, Okung is not far behind.  His athleticism and frame are similar to 2008 Broncos' first round pick Ryan Clady (Boise State), who was drafted by Shanahan during his tenure in Denver.  Okung will be a perfect fit in Shanahan's offensive scheme, which requires its left tackle to be a superior athlete.  The Redskins gave up forty six sacks a year ago and didn't give current QB Jason Campbell much of a chance to succeed.

5. Kansas City Chiefs

Dez Bryant         WR          Oklahoma State

The Chiefs will be tempted to take a look at some of the tackles still available, but they need to continue to put playmakers around their big money investment, QB Matt Cassel.  Bryant and current Chief Dwayne Bowe would give the team a physical pair of wide receivers to complement emerging star RB Jamal Charles.  A series of poor interviews in Indianapolis could start a free fall for the circus catching superstar.

6. Seattle Seahawks

Anthony Davis    OT              Rutgers

Davis will have to manage his weight at the next level and that may be his biggest issue.  In terms of athleticism and potential, he could be a legitimate solution to the left tackle issue if Walter Jones follows through on retirement plans.  If quarterback is an issue, they can take a look at several developmental types in the next two rounds.

7.Cleveland Browns

Ryan Matthews               RB           Fresno State

With the late season emergence of running back Jerome Harrison, this wouldn't seem like a huge need.   However, with talk of Jamal Lewis' retirement, the team needs a back to complement Harrison.   Matthews will add speed to a roster in need of playmakers to take pressure off the quarterback position.  He's one of the highest ranked players on our board.

8. Oakland Raiders

Trent Williams               OT          Oklahoma

Although Bulaga is near  the top of our draft board, he's only ranked slightly ahead of Williams, who also happens to not be a former Hawkeye.  After the disappointing conclusion to the Robert Gallery tackle experiment (he's currently an effective offensive guard), the Raiders will not go after Bulaga.  Instead, they will take the former Sooner, who's run blocking potential would give options to a team in search of a consistent running attack after rushing for only seven scores in 2009.

9. Buffalo Bills

Bryan Bulaga                OT            Iowa

The early run on tackles ends in Buffalo as they select the 6'6" 312 pound Bulaga.  Based on free agency, the team goes after a physical tackle (team currently has Brad Butler, Nick Hennessey, Jamon Meredith and Demetrius Bell) and looks for a quarterback in the top of the second round to come in and compete with current QBs Brian Brohm and Ryan Fitzpatrick.

10.  Denver Broncos

Carlos Dunlap              DE             Florida

The immense run stuffing defensive end will do wonders for a team that struggled to stop the run down the stretch last season.  He won't be a flash pick at this point in the draft, but he is the best fit for a team that needs defensive help along its front.

11.  Jacksonville Jaguars

CJ Spiller                    RB             Clemson

As the team continues to attempt to improve its overall team speed offensively, the versatile Floridian native would be an impact selection.  Maurice Jones-Drew has scored 30 touchdowns the last two years and even caught 53 passes out of the backfield in 2009.  After selecting bookends at the offensive tackle positions in last year's draft, this pick begins to take some pressure off of Jones-Drew, who tallied 312 carries this past season.  Spiller will open up one on one opportunities for the rest of the team's young wideouts and surround QB David Garrard with another big play threat offensively.

12.  Miami Dolphins

Rolando McClain          LB           Alabama

The team needs a physical inside linebacker presence in the middle of their defense.  McClain has underrated instincts in the pass game and while lacking elite agility, he makes up for any deficiencies with play anticipation.  He continues the youth movement defensively that started in last year's draft.

13.  San Francisco 49ers

Patrick Robinson        CB          Florida State

Robinson, who's coming off an uneven Senior Bowl performance, will need strong postseason workouts to solidify our grade.  He is a shoe string tackler with outstanding movement ability and flexibility.  He rates as the best cover corner in this year's class.

14.  Seattle Seahawks

Everson Griffin           DE            USC

Familiarity is the name of the game with this pick, as Carroll continues to add to the list of Trojans on the Seahawks' defensive front.

15.  New York Giants

Sean Weatherspoon   LB           Missouri

The talented Weatherspoon brings athleticism and personality to a defense in search of more playmakers in its core.  With the unsettled situation at the linebacker position, Weatherspoon gives the team options with his versatility.

16.  Tennessee Titans

Derrick Morgan        DE           Georgia Tech

Morgan fits the Titans need to put pressure on the quarterback from the outside.  Regardless of the Vanden Bosch contract situation, Morgan will help a unit that ranked 31st against the pass in 2009.

17.  San Francisco 49ers

Brandon Graham      DE/OLB        San Francisco

Although this may be a little high for the ultra productive Graham, he would give the team added flexibility on a defense that's just a few players away from being one of the NFL's best units.

18.  Pittsburgh Steelers

Mike Iupati                  OG             Idaho

The Steelers still haven't recovered from losing All-Pro offensive guard Alan Faneca to the New York Jets.  They need to establish an inside running game again and the massive Iupati gives the team some options as a swing lineman.   He would compete for a starting job at one of the inside offensive line positions from day one.  The team also could consider the highest rated cornerback on the board, depending on who's still available.

19.  Atlanta Falcons

Amari Spievey            CB              Iowa

The 5'11" 195 pound Spievey would be a perfect fit for a Falcons organization in search of a prime time cover man.  The Iowa coaching staff raves about his physical ability and he should test well in the next couple of months.  He does not have great weight room numbers and his football IQ will have to improve, but he tackles well, something the Falcons need out of their corners next season.  More importantly, he covered with consistency in a pro style defensive scheme under Iowa defensive coordinator Norm Parker.

20.  Houston Texans

Kyle Wilson               CB           Boise State

Since his arrival, GM Rick Smith has done a fine job in building the team through the draft and the decision to keep head coach Gary Kubiak deserves some props.  Too often, teams don't let their head coaches develop continuity with their players.  What the Texans need is a cornerback outside capable of handling the top receivers in the AFC South.  Wilson would be a nice addition to an up and coming defensive unit that ranked 13th in the NFL in 2009.

21.  Cincinnati Bengals

Brandon LaFell        WR           LSU

The next couple of months will be critical for LaFell, who because of some injury concerns decided to skip the Senior Bowl.  We have LaFell rated high on our board due to athleticism, body control and flexibility.  LaFell knows how to win one on one matchups, and has good, not great speed.   He has outstanding size for the position, and even though the team needs a deep threat to stretch the field for Carson Palmer, they also need another receiver capable of working between the hashes.  LaFell is big and strong enough to fit the mold if he avoids the concentration lapses this postseason that were evident much of 2009.

22.  New England Patriots

Sergio Kindle         OLB          Texas

Kindle got a chance to stand up some this season and the results were mixed as to whether he will be able to make the transition full time.  We still want to see increased flexibility from the explosive Longhorn, who saved his best for last with a dominating BCS National Championship game performance.  He will be a matchup nightmare for running backs to block from the outside linebacker spot in their 3-4 defensive scheme.

23.  Green Bay Packers

Charles Brown       LT            USC

The team might try to get up high enough to take one of the top tackles available, and they don't want to be in the position the Texans faced in the 2008 NFL Draft.  They were forced to take Duane Brown out of Virginia Tech due to concerns they wouldn't be able to fill the need later in the draft.  It was a great move by GM Smith and the former Hokie has started all 32 games of his young career.  This Brown is a similar player, but with perhaps more potential than any tackle down the road in this year's class.  He has improved his base and strength since struggling with inside movement in 2008.

24.  Philadelphia Eagles

Brandon Spikes    LB           Florida

We have Spikes rated much higher than this and his stock shouldn't drop based on not seeing him play again.  However, his last two games of the season exposed many of his weaknesses, and he was slow in his cognitive ability late in the year.  He also struggled with some lower body extremity issues (groin) and didn't play fast down the stretch.  He won't test well, but he is a very similar prospect to current Eagles' LB Jeremiah Trotter.  Spikes would bring a similar presence to the middle of their defense.  His physicality rates near the top of the linebacker class in 2010 and you can't be a successful player at the position without it.

25.  Baltimore Ravens

Dezmon Briscoe   WR         Kansas

The Ravens will be tempted to flirt with the notion of Arrelious Benn at this spot and he, too, would be a fine choice.  Regardless, the team needs to start surrounding QB Joe Flacco with some offensive punch and the gifted Briscoe would be a viable option after three strong seasons as a Jayhawk.  His body control and ball skills overcome his lack of elite hip flexibility.

26.  Arizona Cardinals

Jerry Hughes     OLB/DE       TCU

The Cardinals are another team that has built its team well through the draft, with Rod Graves and Steve Keim being a good pair in the desert.  Despite registering 43 sacks as a team, they could use a presence like Hughes, who may be the most natural pass rusher in this year's draft.

27.  Dallas Cowboys

Bruce Campbell     LT       Maryland

Campbell ranks in the same class with USC OT Charles Brown, in that he might go higher in this year's draft if not for more room for development.  Much like Brown, the athletic Campbell could end up as one of the best in this year's tackle class.  Although he bench presses nearly 500 pounds, he needs to stay on the field to become an elite player for the position, but he fits the mold of the bigger Cowboys offensive linemen.  The team needs another athlete on the perimeter of its unit and the inexperienced Campbell would be a good start.

28.  San Diego Chargers

Chad Jones          S             LSU

The two sport star would be a welcome addition to the back end of a Chargers' secondary that needs another playmaker.  He would immediately bring added versatility off the hash and his best football is ahead of him.  His coverage ability is going to surprise many during this year's postseason.

29.  New York Jets

Golden Tate       WR        Notre Dame

While Tate still needs significant work as a route runner, his run after the catch ability is unmatched at the position in this year's draft.  He has improved on his early tendency to body catch and he did a good job of winning on contested balls in 2009.  If he runs as well as expected, the junior standout could hear his name called in the first round.  He would be a nice complement to Jerrico Cotchery and Braylon Edwards in their receiving corps.

30.  Minnesota Vikings

Brian Price        DT           UCLA

The Vikings are probably going to get another year out of Pat Williams, who seems to be owning 'Father Time'.  However, its time to start grooming someone in his mold, and Price is a luxury pick who will be a disruptive rotation guy initially.

31.  Indianapolis Colts

Joe Haden        CB           Florida

Haden just makes it into our 1st round and this could be a perfect fit for the Colts' scheme.  While we gave him a high second round grade, his ball skills and attitude are a perfect match for the high intensity defensive unit.  He reads the quarterback well, and while he is somewhat of a short strider, has very good fast twitch movement ability.  He would be able to come in and compete for playing time right away in a defensive scheme that is similar to the one he played in while in school.

32.  New Orleans Saints

Dan Williams     DT          Tennessee

The Saints need more help in the middle of their defense after registering a Super Bowl victory for the ages this past weekend.  While they were an opportunistic unit, the addition of Williams will help a unit that ranked 21st against the run in 2009.

WORST MOCK DRAFT EVER!
Posted by Chris on
Best Mock Draft Ever! I like Bulaga going to Buffalo at #9. At #11, CJ Spiller going to Jacksonville, gives them a nice 1-2 punch at RB.
Posted by Sam on
I disagree highly. The chance that neither Clausen or Bradford will be drafted in the first round is very unlikely. Especially with teams like Washington, Buffalo, Cleveland, St. Louis, and Seattle who all fairly need QB's. Worst mock draft I've seen so far.
Posted by Ringthane on
Since the teams in the top half of the round who DO need QBs (Skins, Browns, Rams, Jaguars and Bills) also have gaping holes in other places, I could definitely see the first QB sliding all the way to Seattle at 14. If that happens, though, they'll be under too much pressure not to draft Clausen there. But at least a few of those teams will probably ALSO get in on the Quinn/Anderson, McNabb/Kolb/Vick, and Troy Smith trade games, too, so those holes could be filled by draft-time, too. And if one of those teams IS Seattle, the first QB COULD drop to the 2nd round. That's a lot of IFs, but it's feasible.
Posted by FrustratedBillsFan on
when was the last draft where no QB was taken in the first round? Bills have a lot of holes to fill but no are more difficult to full than QB..we have been on the merry go round way too long at qb if Clausen or Bradfor are there at 9 bills need to grab one ...preferably clausen...
a good team without a Qb is a bad team ..
a bad team with a great Qb is a average team
once ur QB of the future is set it's easier to build around him..no QB no chance unless you luck u and get a once in a decade defense like tampa bay did or baltimore....

By Leaps and bounds the worst mock draft ive ever seen ...Joe Haden slipping down to no.31 to the colts? Chad Jones in the first round? WHERE THE HEck IS EARL THOMAS?!?!? DEZ bRYANT IN THE TOP 5?!? Everson Griffen going before Derrick Morgan?! Briscoe at no. 25 over Arrelious Benn?!?!? Where the heck is Benn!?!? Philly taking Brandon Spikes? Sir, you may not have heard but they have a guy named Stewart Bradley (certain all pro) coming back from a knee injury he suffered way way way back before the season even started...why the heck would big red take an ILB with Stew holding down the MLB, Will Witherspoon holding down the WLB..and with to be announced (A.J. Edds in the 3rd) holding down the SLB?!?!? Im being generous and not point out 5 to 6 more huge mistakes in this "mock draft" solid effort though..

No Qb's in the first round?

I'm very disappointed in this site. Corey sounded far more intelligent on TV than this drivel I'm reading here.

I would reather see Jason Odrick befor Griffin.Befor for the draft is over the hawks will be the USC of the north.

I'm surprised Haden is so low in this mock draft.
Posted by D3murf on
Alot of this is pretty good. I'm not going to call this the worst ever, like some of you Couch potatoes are. The draft hasn't even happened, disagree and keep it moving..Discrepancies--
My first is with the Browns pick. I doubt they would take a RB with that pick, James Davis was injured last yr, he might have had the best preseason out of all the RB's on that team.

Denver: Taking another DE from the Gators seems scary after the Jarvis Moss debacle!

Miami: Watched like 10 of their games this yr--the ILB's are good. (Crowder/Ayodele) I think Saftey was the Achilles heel. They could use a real #1 receiver too. Bess is top 3 slot guy in the league!

My Falcons: I'm a season ticket holder. Our young Cb's stepped up at the end of the season. We had two veteran CB's on IR (Hutchins/B.Williams) As a matter of fact we have way too many Cb's! (Houston/Grimes/Owens/C.Jackson/Williams/Hutchins) We need a Pass Rush! Jamaal Anderson flopped! Biermann is decent. Abraham went from 16 sacks to 5. We also could use an Explosive player on offense. (Norwood is too injury prone) Mccluster/Spiller/Tate style player. A young TE as well...

Chargers: They don't need Chad Jones. Weddle and Jones play very similar. They do need a RB. A physical 3 down back.

Great Site though. Chavous was one of my fav. players!!

Just wanted to thank everybody for the comments. We realize that some of our Mock Draft predictions are scary for teams that need QBs, but let's face it, what happens when you mess up the pick. You're right back in the first round selecting another one in the next three years. Additionally, as we continue to finish grades on players through extended film study, some names could change. Mock Drafts are fun and very important for NFL teams when trying to predict what other teams will do. They also have several versions leading up to draft day and we will try to give an extended version of these MOCKs leading up to draft day.

In conclusion, there is one thing for certain, you can't make the 'Club' if you're in the 'Tub'!!! Health is very important in ranking these next level stars.

Once again, thanks to everybody for the negative and positive comments. We love them all!!!

d3murf..Who are you? If I'm a couch potato, then well, I guess you are too, considering you're doing the same exact thing all of us are. You've probably not played a snap of football in your life.. loser..i can tell by your assessments of random teams, which probably means your whole life revolves around knowing the entire NFL teams needs..sitting at your desk with your glasses on and your little notepad and a pencil "honey I need more coffee!", working through the night striving to get the pros and cons of each and every micros of macros of each team..LOSER..you drew first blood. And a little FYI, don't call people out if you're going to do an even more in-depth description of your thoughts..Hypocrite. --Representing the WV OVAC Football All-Stars--

Vic is that the best you could come up with? I'll air yo ass out quick! Since you asked who am I...www.myspace.com/d3murf
I'm a Fitness Model/Trainer
Anyway, I didn't even read your 1st post--that's how unimportant you are! Until you are called out individually, there's no need for tough talk. lol at your Assessment of me!! And lol at reppin' on a Message Board. Do something constructive playboy!! Yeah I do know what EVERY team needs, so holla at me if you want your team to be tops in the league!! You know what, in honor of Vic I'll Hook his Eagles up..

Building depth at the LB position wouldn't be all that bad. When you dig J. Trotter out the grave, you obviously don't believe in the young guys you have (Akeem Jordan,Mays, White etc. Stewart Bradley (Vic's Secret Lover) is a good player, but injuries like that...You just never know! Need help along that offensive line, the loss of Stacey Andrews didn't help. I also believe a Young Corner, is in order. Not sold on my boy Macho at Safety--move him back to corner and draft both a S and a Corner!!
Posted by Vic on
Ahhh, Ahhh, murf, i'm down murf, they got me...what a fool you are.."air my ass out"? what does that exactly mean? Are you homosexual? By the job description, i'll bet my top dollar you are.. if anything that was the most "tough talk" thats been dished out so far. I'm assuming thats a threat? Airing my ass out? ah ah ah, not very smart are we, eh? too much juice and creatine has your mind playing tricks on you? Couch potatoes, i remember that comment, well I guess all of the pieces fall together since you're in such great shape, you stud you. Why did you comment back if i'm that unimportant? Am I unworthy of the omnipotent "murf"? Capiche omnipotent? Likely not. Tracy White is hardly a young guy..Joe Mays is a pre-season standout only and Akeem Jordan got more than his fair share of reps. Stacy Andrews was never lost because he was never found..i agree w/ moving Macho back to corner..and also drafting a C and a FS or do it through FA
(prefer draft)..as for me doing something constructive, im Pre-Pharm, which I think is more than enough to be considered constructive "playboy". It was a must that you were called out individually well, simply because, you were the only one to call anybody else out, that's just begging to be called out individually..as far as my "reppin" goes, I think that you were just looking for something else to throw at me, it's really not that big a deal, Cedric. I'm sure i'll hear from you soon.I think you're a little old for a myspace, one that's potently themed for that matter..Shrink your head a little, and no I don't mean that literally.. p.s. I didn't literally (a bit of a theme here) want to know who you were..i meant who are you to call anybody or a group out? Perk up!!!
Posted by Vic on
Murf, i'm done with this stupid argument..good luck to you in everything you do.
Posted by d3murf on
LOL at that Weak ass Walk off Homerun attempt! Funny how you heard the word ass and immediately starting thinking like a wild homo?!? Google it, if you have questions on what that means. As for the social network, If there's an age limit to marketing myself (even though I'm only 26) and helping me make even more $$$, then count me out. I use Social Networking for promotion! Getting chicks is way easy, and done in person...

As for you Idaho Couch Potatoes, (a term used for any Hater--who has something Negative to say at people being creative and trying to maximize their potential)I called ya'll out because saying this was the WORST MOCK EVER---MAKES NO SENSE--considering the draft hasn't even happened!! Supposed he ended up picking 92%? Then u dudes would be quiet as a Church on Tuesdays! Instead of Hating on the internet, post your version and get it poppin' like that! You dudes take this internet stuff serious for all the wrong reasons. You even got Wankstas like Vic, putting age limits on Websites?!?

Do Something Constructive, go get on some chicks! Like we do daily! Figure out how to make some GuacaMOOLA ($$) Like Corey Chavous is doing!! Vic you're still mad Unimportant, I'm only here because I supporting one of my fav football players--C. Chavous!! In honor of him--I'll hook up the Rams.

I'm still not sure the Rams need a DT!?! A. Carriker was injured--and showed himself to be pretty good at the POA. Maybe paring him with an inside rush presence like G. MCcoy wouldn't be that bad... I happened to think Bradford's accuracy is uncanny, so if not an inside Pass Rusher--he would be my choice as a passer as the top pick. I like the idea of bringing in Mike Vick, and drafting Mccoy. Another ex Falcon, Laurent Robinson (I'm still mad he's not a Falcon!) was showing himself to be a solid #2 receiver b4 landing on IR. Donnie Avery is not a #1 nor is B. Gibson. All those guys are good, but adding a veteran Receiver would make them even better. CB needs some work. My boy J. Wade needs to step up. Justing King as well. C. Chavous needs to Unretire and run with OJ again...Did Jason Smith even play at Right Tackle? I hope he's not a bust..Back to Business C.Chavous, keep up the good work!!
Posted by Vic on
If getting "mad chicks daily" is you're definition of doing something constructive, then I feel deeply for you, brother..typical..and basing importance off of internet posts and message boards is rather vague..as far as i know, opinions are open on this board..even as your idol/god Corey Chavous said in his post "Once again, thanks to everybody for the negative and positive comments. We love them all!!!" Don't try to put anybody in line, it simply won't work with me pal, you're just another..ah..nevermind. GO GET SOME CHICKS BRO, LIKE WE DO DAILY! You're at the bottom of the food chain, if you catch my drift...this is, once again, the worst mock draft i've ever seen....can you swim? That question has multiple meanings to it.
Posted by d3murf on
Man you're like that Turd that won't flush Playboy! Yo if this is what the "Bottom of the Food Chain" is like, then I don't need progression!! Yes getting mad chicks daily is very constructive, especially after helping people achieve their fitness goals, making $$$ at something I absolutely Love, and being the subj of interest (Radio Show guest, Posters, Magazine Publicity etc) off of just working hard! LIFE IS GOOD! So why you try to make yourself feel better by calling something the worst ever, that hasn't happened? Hating on Corey, for being creative and making a career for himself after he hung up his cleats... How about you;

GET ON SOME CHICKS!!! Work off some of that frustration! Go to school, and bury your head in them books. Next football season, watch more than just your team--so you can make a correct evaluation for next yrs draft. Post you own mock draft based off of your hard work and evaluation like the people who run this site...Ask somebody at your school, who's maximizing their potential--if you can borrow a chick or two. Hell fly out here to Atlanta, we'll put you in the game!! Anyway, Good luck playboy--take a wild guess as to what I'm about to do?!?!?! HAHA LOVIN' LIFE!!!!!!

1st let me hook the Chiefs up! C. Chav has them picking D. Bryant. I think with the addition of Chris Chambers this position can be addressed through FA or later rounds of the Draft. Rolando Mcclain will be the presence they need to further the completion of that 3-4 defense. Tyson Griffin/Glenn Dorsey haven't been heard from since both of their last college games. Vrabel is running on E these days! They need a major overhaul at LB. Brandon Flowers is a BEAST on the corner. Suspect move letting B. Pollard go at safety! So ILB, OLB, TE (Tony G baby!) Maybe draft a bruiser in the later rds--to spell the next superstar (Jamal Charles)

haha, im done.

I feel like i just stumbled though an episode of jersey shore or some other lame ass mtv reality show lol. i'm not in total agreeance with this mock draft but like murf says you gotta make your own assessments and see how you do. sometime theres a reason these guys get paid. thx for all the inside info on those teams as well. i would never know all of that if i had read through you all argument. do me a favor murf and hook my grandpas team up... Miami dullfins(intentional spelling) peace
Posted by Al Lown on
Corey I taught you better then this. I need a better effort son. I understand you made a ton of money in the NFL...This mock draft is awful.
Posted by d3murf on
Miami Dullfins for my man Fsu_Guy..

QB Situation solved!! Finally..Offensive line might be top 5 in the league. Running game is the most Potent in the league... All that up front fire power and nobody to catch the darn ball! Phins have a top 3 slot guy in Davone Bess, but the worst outside combo in the league. Camarillo/Ginn are both #3 receivers. I wouldn't address this through the draft though, I would press hard to get Brandon Marshall or Antonio Bryant (so he can beat up Parcells again)On the other side of the ball, Earl Thomas (S-Texas) needs to find his way in the defensive backfield. Nice addition to the best young Corner duo in the league. Pass rush was lacking last season. Porter is cut and J. Taylor might be next. Cameron Wake is SICK with the Pass Rush, but they need a veteran to pair with him. 4-5th rd, needs the drafting a of a back to take Ricky and Ronnie's spot in the next 2 yrs. All in All, the Phins are my fav team outside of the Falcons--and I finally saw them play live the first game of last year!

Great Coaching Regime and scheme. Creativity at it's best! 3-4 defense with heavy play-actions...Go Dullfins!! Yo BTW if this was jersey shore--you know I'm "The Situation"..

Yup,... this is BAAAAD. Joe Haden and no QB is RIDICULOUS, D Morgan that low?? Amari Spivey ijn the 1st? GOOOOOD GOD Corey

Seeing I'm a grown man I don't use this word often, but here I go: SILLY

To go through all the trouble of setting up such a site, where you can't even find the mock draft easily by the way, and putting together this foolishness is nothing but a waste of time.
Posted by Kimbo on
I have gone over this draft and although I don't agree with all the selections, just as I don't with Kiper, McShay and some of the other popular guys. But my question is why is this one so bad? Because there is no QB? Right now with neither throwing at the combine, I have a hard time spending gauranteed money on either until I see full recovery. What will happen to all the boards if these guys are not cleared medically? I have no problem with this board not having one in the 1st round. It does say version 1. Amari Spivey over Joe Haden? I will be the first to admit, I haven't seen a great deal of film on Spivey, but nor have a seen a lot on Haden. I'm not talking about watching a game, I mean serious film study, coach's cut etc. So what makes Haden better? Kiper? I will say one thing about this site, the photos and video, show Corey and his (team?) are at the games, practices etc. Chad Jone maybe a little high, but again all I have to go off are other boards. It's good for us to be critical, but I also recall other draft gurus being high on Ryan Leaf, and Corey's former teammate (I think) Tye Hill and Chris Long. With that being said, Corey, I hope to see some changes in version 2.
Posted by Mike Harman on
Wow. Matthews in the top 10? He might be a reach in the top 10 of the third round. Dunlap as a 3-4 end is possible but unlikely. Haden as the 4th corner? Dezmon Brisoe in the 1st? I like him as a 4th or 5th round steal. No QB taken in the first is almost as dumb as... well it matches this mock but almost as dumb as taken a long snapper in the 1st... Wow.
Posted by Ike Johnson on
Has every team in the NFL set their final boards? I hope not especially my beloved 'Skins. I hope they are still evaluating players, much like Corey seems to be doing. Keep up the good work. I look forward to Version 2.

Hey Corey. Seriously.....how many concussions did you suffer in your career? This is awful. Just awful.
Posted by Steve on
07. Cleveland - RB Ryan Matthews
31. Indianapolis - CB Joe Haden
lolol

Spivey and Briscoe are not 1st round talents... and LaFell should drop also.

No QBs in round 01? Surely ye jest

I know you want to be different and all but this is really borderline bad,
Posted by modans55 on
Corey, I hope that you're very close to accurate. No QBs in the first round?? Sam Bradford at the top of round two sounds good to me!
Posted by Randy IN WV on
You guys need to go back and do your homework. Where are the QB's? Haden is a top 10 player. I am embarassed for you. The OT from USC is not a 1st round guy. I AM EMBARASSED FOR YOU....

This is absolutely the worst mock draft I have ever seen...any year, any website...it's terrible
Posted by Ringthane on
Seriously, people, this mock was posted at the beginning of February. The Combine hasn't even happened yet and the draft is still two months away! Of course this mock isn't close to what will actually happen. But I'm glad to know that so many of you guys commenting already know exactly how it will all pan out. Maybe you should lay some money on it?
Posted by richardpryor on
I agree with Corey on alot I've seen here. I like Patrick Robinson as a cover corner as much as Joe Haden. I've watched and watched and watched both. And I can't see that Haden is a better cover corner. I agree on that one. I agree on Sergio Kindle (the guy is a monster, he had the best game of any defensive player in the National Championship game). He runs like a running back and hits like a train. Also I agree on Ryan Matthews (he's the most underrated player in the draft).........I mean to look at some of the mocks that list Sean Witherspoon as the 62 nd pick, Matthews in the fourth round, Kindle in the third round.........I mean it just goest to show that most of the guys who are creating these mock drafts never played football. I ask any doubters on Ryan Matthews ......get the games, get the tapes and compare and if you still think Matthews belongs in the third round.......God Bless you ! The guy is absolutely the most underrated guy in the draft. Hands down !
Posted by john on
can you say mardy gilyard 1st wr off the board you.play maker heart that's it hands down.
Posted by Vic on
Ringthane, why is there even a comment section then? Simply for stating opinions on the given mock draft..positive or negative.
Posted by Willie O on
Obviously nearly 96% of the comments that have been made were made by people who have never picked up a football or laced up a pair of cleats. So, how dare you make statements like "worst ever". This is a mock draft in February! It will certainly change. Listen to a guy who has played the game and has more draft coverage experience than half of the guys you listen to or look at on any of these sports networks. Keep up the great work DRAFT NASTY!

WORST MOCK DRAFT EVER!!! BRISCOE AND SPIEVLY AREN'T EVEN 3RD ROUND TALENT. WHERE ARE THE QUARTERBACKS? DID THEY GO MISSING IN THE BERMUDA TRIANGLE OR SOMETHING? AND WHY IN HELL IS JOE HADEN ALL THE BACK AT 31ST WHEN HES A TOP TEN TALENT. YOUR MOMMA CAN DO BETTER THAN THIS!!!!!!!
Posted by Ur Mom on
BTW WILLIE O, IF DRAFT NASTY HAD ANY IDEA ON WHAT THE HELL HES DOING THEN HE WOULD HAVE A MOCK BETTER THAN TODD MCSHAY, BUT HE DOESNT!!!! THATS A SHAME!!!!
Posted by Vic on
In fact I picked up the ball a lot, considering I was a Center (and DE)..although I infrequently laced up my cleats, they came laced and stayed that way usually the whole year..now if we're talkin spikes, yeah I changed those often...it sucks when they rust over.

you are hilarious vic... anyway, i kind of like this mock, it surely spurs a lot of controversy. let's see how the second version will pan out after the combine is done. matthews had a strong workout and might indeed be rising on some boards. then again he's probably not the best player on the board at 7 and the browns have bigger needs than rb if they decide not go value.
draftnasty, what really interests me is how come of the 5 de's you predict to go in the 1st round none of them is pierre-paul?? obviously you rated him lower than many others de's but seriously, granted he needs to develop more strength (got the frame for it to bulk up)on the poa to accompany his great speed and should play with a higher motor consistently (but so does dunlap), many teams still have to absolutely love his potential!!
in the end i guess i am asking, are you focusing the mock on what you(!) would like to see the teams draft, because you believe those are the best players and fits for the particular franchises or what you actually believe they(!) will draft, regardless of your thinking who should be picked by them in that spot? Keep it up.

Corey is looking much smarter today after Joe Haden ran 4.6 at the combine. All those prognosticators who placed Joe Haden in the top seven picks are all trying to figure out how Joe looked like he was playing at 4.39 on the field when he only runs 4.6 on the track. Ok, I've heard the experts trying to justify how this doesn't make Joe Haden slip out of the top ten.........and after all is said and done..........anyone of them who are honest now admit that the biggest disappointment of the combine was Joe's forty time. I must say though I feel after seeing Suh at the combine and to some degree on the field.........he will be first pick, Suh will be the first pick........also how can anybody knock Corey on the Quarterbacks, I mean how can you put quarterbacks in the first round who don't show up for the combine......I mean that was the saddest performance of quarterbacks - ever.......they either showed badly or not at all or only wanted to throw at stationary targets, or made like running backs and did the forty........you call those first round picks ?
Posted by Jason on
LMAO! I would do FLIP FLOPS all weekend if Joe Haden falls to my Colts! Can I have Jason Pierre-Paul in the 2nd too! hilarious!
Posted by Jason on
Man, I am just SHOCKED at how poor your rankings are. I just went through your Big Board looking to see where you had a favorite of mine, OT/G RODGER SAFFORD from IU, listed in your overall rankings. HE IS NOT IN YOUR TOP 300! This guy will be a 2nd round pick, 3rd at the latest, and he is not even in your TOP 300. WOOW! And there are litterally dozens of more examples that I could give of the same type of blatant incompetence. I guess being a former player gets you in a lot of doors because I've heard you on a bunch of different radio stations, but you CLEARLY have not put in as much time watching and evaluting players as even the most average draftnick, let alone someone who is touting himself as a so called expert. I'm afraid all those outlets for you will quickly dry up once producers actually start to take a look at your work. Again, all I can really say is WOW!!!!
Posted by richardpry0r on
Almost everybody who lists a mock and believes they know football just parrot what they hear. What I like with Corey's ideas are ....."they are original and fact based"......first of all ROGER SAFFOLD....I have a tape of the East West game and it took me quite awhile just to find Roger Saffold in the game . Maybe he tore it up in the practices. If I'm right, I watched the tape maybe five times. They never gave you a lineup during the game and all of the players have several insignias on their helmets Saffold I believe had two. He played less than half of the game and played ok, the best part about him his his movement. But, we are not talking about a guy who came out and dominated the game, he played less than half of the game sharing time with Chris Scott of Tennessee and he played ok, so if you don't believe it get the tape of the game watch it and then tell me how great Roger Saffold looked. I've heard this endless litany of how great Roger Saffold looked at the East West game.....when in what quarter or in what practices.....I'm not seeing this, too much.....also I've seen people saying how good Jon Asamoah looked in the Senior bowl, I've searched the tape....( I don't think he played), from what I've seen is he was injured in the practice sessions (too bad, I think he's probably one of the better guards).....

I totally agree with Draft Nasty's mock draft. The QBs in this year's draft is average at best. Sam Bradford is ok. Everyone is going crazy over his Wonderlic Test of 36. Which is very impressive but so was Matt Leinart's (35) and he's awful by the way. Jimmy Clausen is also average at best. He's not even better than his two older brothers (Casey & Rick) and everyone needs to stop with this "he's played in a pro offense nonsense." So did Brady Quinn and he's being shopped as we speak. Tony Pike. C'mon SON! No comment. Next!...Colt McCoy. Yeah right. Tim Tebow is on the same level as all of these guys and I'm not a Gator fan by any means. None of these guys (QBs) should not be draft in the 1st Round. St. Louis Rams. Listen. Go ahead and get you a Veteran QB (Maybe Mike Vick or even McNabb for a second round pick) and draft Suh or (Gerald) McCoy 1st overall. Bulger's gotta go!!!!
Posted by D3murf on
@ Mike D, I understand you want to make a point, but saying something like Rick Clausen is better than Jimmy Clausen is asinine! Rick Clausen can't even spell the word Draft! As for comparing Brady Quinn to Jimmy, why even do it? If you have watched even one game, you would see they are two totally diff. qb's. Jimmy is a much more accurate passer with a more adequate arm. Throws better on the run as well. Mike Vick and Drew Brees both played in the west coast offense, should they be compared for evaluation purposes?

** side note: From now on when people say something like a "player is average at best" and doesn't come with something concrete behind it, they should be instantly labeled as Ignorant--and have that labeled next to their name so we know their word is equal to the price of tea in China!! Let's get some real draft/evaluation talk going on in this bitch! None of this kindergarten saying somebody sucks and not stating why!!

@ D3murf, Unfortunately I have been able to watch Notre Dame play the last 3 years and if you think "Jimbo", who's average, is a lottery pick you're clearly an ass. First of all, my statement "average at best" is saying he will NEVER be better than average. I'm actually cuttin' him some slack by saying he's average. B/c I really think he's terrible. He's not a winner. Tell, me. How many big games has he won? Hell the Irish went 6-6 this year! And he's a 1st Round pick. C'mon SON, What the hell are "YOU" smoking?! Notre Dame (they hardly play anyone worth mentioning anyway)but they've played 4 ranked opponents in 2 of the 3 years (Jimmy) Clausen was at the helm. And Guess what? Smart ass. They're 0-4 with "Jimmy Jam" Clausen as the starter. His brothers (Casey & Rick) played in the best Conference in the US of A the SEC and had tougher schedules year in and out. Plus, they've actually played in meaningful games (2 SEC Championship Games) in '04(Casey) and '07 (Rick).
Posted by Mike D on
@ D3murf, Since you like stats here's another one. Jimmy "Jam" Clausen is 16-20 as a starter! Of all the QBs I mentioned you like "JIMMY"! Clearly you don't watch football but I'll give some credit b/c you watch SportCenter highlighhts and thats where you get your info from. Nice Try. Do this. Know your role and shut your mouth when grown people are talking. Capeesh. Now, I am tired of your presence. DISMISSED!!!!

Come on playboy, your disses sound like a beginner to me, your whole shine is like a dimmer to me!! Man I have probably seen about 15 ND games with Jimmy at the Helm. I have about 10 recorded. I actually study the game tape. I'm not going by what some guys said on radio. I can give you a review of each game he played this year. Tell you what he does right and wrong. Please come with something better than that son. ND sucks as a team. Defense is flat out horrible. Football is a team game! I know you're used to playing with yourself. Take your hand out your pants and actually watch the whole team.

I can name about 15 people on both Casey and Rick's teams that went to the NFL. You won't find that many stars on Jimmy's. You still haven't names how he's terrible. He did the damn thing this yr, in each game he plated. The Defense let that team down. lol at Rick Clausen, that was Erik Ainge's team as well...This dude dumber than bricks!! Get
As for making enemies, none of these dudes can see me! And I will continue to prove it, the min. I hear dumb stuff being spit!! When Murf is here, watch what you say!

Jason,

If you ever decide to come back, we would appreciate the opportunity to share a couple of things. First of all, we appreciate your commentary, it is much needed. By the way, Corey has never claimed to be an expert when it comes to draft analysis.

As we've stated, we are in still in the process of grading players...Al Woods, DT LSU is not on the board yet either. However, here's a brief snippet:

#97 Al Woods DT 6’4” 323 SR
Has the size to push an offensive guard backwards off the ball. Very good athlete for size, good play speed. Will track ballcarriers when in chase mode, showing impressive range. Doesn’t always have a good get off the ball. Not sure if this is isolated or a problem on regular basis, has shown up in three games thus far (Wash '09, Georgia '09, Ole Miss '09). Tries to win with quickness rather than girth at the point of attack. Don’t feel that he’s a true space eater type and we question whether he plays with the pad level to hold the point vs. the DBL team consistently.

We will also continue to spend an inordinate amount of time searching for some of the players around the country seeking to get shots at the next level. DraftNasty.com will always search for those 'Hidden Gems'.

I have actually had the pleasure of watching tape of Corey Chavous while I was a G.A at U of I and trying to land Mr. Chavous' teammate D'Wayne Bates and I have watched him since. While we may disagree in with many aspects of this 'Mock Draft' let's remember Matt Jones, Kelly Jennings, Ted Ginn Jr., Kentwan Ballmer, Tyson Jackson are all players that have been selected well above where nearly all the "experts" had projected them to go while Aaron Rodgers, Matt Leinart, Brady Quinn, are among the recent top QBs who fell 5 to 20 plus draft slots below most projections. Sanchez was projected to go to Seattle last year but the Jets traded up to get him at 3.

While I consider it very unlikely that Seattle and Carolina would pass on Bradford and Clausen should they fall to them, we must remember that there will likely be at least 2 trades that will change the draft board; many teams are looking to trade down, the Patriots have many picks to deal the board is still in a state of flux. Look for players like Monterio Hardesty, Patrick Robinson and Jared Odrick to continue to climb, while Haden needs a good pro day to stay in the top 5-10 and Bruce Campbell may drop a bit as the combine buzz cools and teams go back to his inconsistent play and technique on tape.

Clausen is the strongest armed and most athletic of the Clausen's however the primary concerns regarding him are not physical or even about his football IQ, however his, at times, slightly J.P Losmanesque or Cade McNownish vibe he has at time given off may hurt him in the eyes of some teams. I saw Jeff George up close in both practices and games and as a passer he was everything you want, but he never learned to lead or even relate to most of his teammates.

This is a very weak QB class many think it's the weakest since 2001, however that year Drew Brees was taken in the second due to concerns about his measuring at less than 6'1”, that he had played in a “gimmicky” basketball on grass offense and that he had a “less than elite” arm. Joe Montana went in the third, Brady in the 6th while prototypical QBs like: George, Mirer, Dan McGwire, Jim Druckenmiller, Ryan Leaf and Russell were expected to do well because they were all from "pro style" offenses; all had the proper height and could make all the throws.

However mental toughness, emotional maturity, leadership skills and the ability to improvise, think on the fly are what separates the future all pro from the future flop. The quarterback position is the hardest position to scout in all of team sports, Unitas was cut by a Steelers franchise that was terrible, he was only 182 pounds when he left Louisville and ran an option offense. Bill Walsh himself called Mirer “the next Joe Montana.” None of the QBs likely to go in the first 50 picks are close to a sure thing.

Personally I believe unless a QB is perfect for your scheme, has proven he’s durable coachable and mature don’t take him early, this is a good year to look for a developmental mid-round to UDFA QB with upside like: Jarrett Brown, Levi Brown, Sean Canfield, Johnathan Crompton, Mike Kafka, Matt Nichols, Ryan Perrilloux, Dominic Randolph, Zac Robinson, Tyler Sheehan, John Skelton, Bill Stull or Eric Ward while you might not find Bart Starr or Tom Brady you might get a Matt Hasselbeck, Frank Reich or Seneca Wallace type.

@ 11bravo, that's the kind of post, I'm referring to!! That is an A+++++ post. Shows your knowledge in depth...Not saying something outlandish like Rick Clausen is better than Jimmy Clausen. I thought a site ran by Corey Chavous would have more posts like this...Keep it up man

stupid mock draft. isn't even remotely close to any others.

Corey is a great judge of talent, and unlike us he has seen these people live. Why put QB's in that haven't even thrown this year? They are all coming off injuries. Maybe after Monday Corey will move Bradford up. Maybe not/ Maybe after he gets checked out a couple weeks after that to see if his shoulder froze up.

"Hi Corey"! I just heard about your site today and I think it's cool! I am a loyal Rams fan and I want you to know how much your missed there, from me. I've watched you on NFL Network and I think that your doing an 'awesome' job too. I personaly want to see Sam Bradford on the Rams, cause you can see how badly we need help at that position. Your right however, that we also need someone like McCoy as well. Before I go Corey, I have a "great" photo of you in action as a Ram and would like to know if I could get you to sign it for me, when you have the time. I only need to know where to send it. Thank you very much for your time. God Bless! Sincerely, Paul Fountinelle.

Hey Corey, whats up?Life long Ram fan here, you were an exceptional player for the short time you were with us,and for your career.I dont think you did that bad of a job considering it was very premature.I think Suh will be twice the player that McCoy will be.McCoy reminds me too much of Glenn Dorsey from LSU,what a bust. When is Mock Draft #2 coming out, just wondering?

Redskins, Browns, Bills, Jags, 49ers, seahawks, Cardinals, Vikings, and maybe even the Pats or colts - none of these guys will pass on a talent like Bradford. That is if he is not taken 1st overall. This is the most absurd mock I have seen this year. If I was a betting man, I would bet the homestead that bradford does not even drop out of the top 5.
