Wide receiver Dwight Jones (#83 pictured) became UNC’s single-season reception leader after a remarkable performance Saturday night against the Duke Blue Devils. He finished the game with 10 catches for 101 yards and 3 touchdowns. Virginia Tech's Jarrett Boykin (#81 pictured) has finally taken the torch and appears to be a threat in the ACC this season. The Charlotte, NC native had a big day this past Saturday vs. Wake Forest, recording 7 catches for 149 yards and a touchdown. If Boykin can stay on track the remainder of the season, he will be a candidate for all-conference honors.
Senior OG Joe Looney (#78 pictured) is one of the most underrated offensive linemen in the ACC. The four-year starter has been very instrumental in the 'Deacs great start this season and is looking to lead them to its first bowl appearance since 2008. Junior Orwin Smith (#17 pictured) continues to be a big playmaker in Paul Johnson’s triple-option offense. On Saturday, Smith added his 8th touchdown of the season and still ranks at the top of the ACC in yards per carry. Check out Smith’s highlights and other juniors here at DraftNasty.com
Senior RB Davin Meggett (#8 pictured) and junior DT Joe Vellano have been the most consistent players on Maryland’s roster this season. Meggett displays tough running ability and has shown he is capable of shouldering the team's rushing load this season. Vellano is a strong 3-technique that uses his hands well to get off blocks and has the ability to be a force in the middle of the defense. Both players should be contenders for all-conference honors at the end of the 2011 season.
Duke safety Matt Daniels (#40 pictured) had an impressive outing in last Saturday’s contest versus the 6th-ranked Stanford Cardinal. Daniels added 13 tackles to go along with his 6 pass breakups from the previous week. This game also featured Heisman candidate Andrew Luck and senior WR Chris Owusu. Virginia Tech QB Tyrod Taylor (#5 pictured) put on a performance for the ages. Taylor passed for 263 yards and 3 touchdowns to defeat the Seminoles of Florida State in Saturday’s ACC Championship game. He was named the game’s MVP for the second time in his career and will lead his team to its third Orange Bowl appearance since his freshman season. Junior Da’Quan Bowers (#93 aligned outside) had another big day for the Tigers defense. Bowers, the nation’s leader in sacks, added 2 more to his resume closing in on Clemson’s single season record with 15 ½. Senior OLB Anthony Egbuniwe (#41 pictured) led Ga. Tech’s defense with 7 tackles and a sack in Saturday’s contest against the Virginia Cavaliers. DC Al Groh was all smiles as he defeated his former team 33-21 in both teams' second ACC matchup of the season.
